• he in fair condition but may require additional evaluation to determine the need and/or ability to
relocate the feature. This structure does not appear to have been included in previously surveys
in the documents reviewed. If determined appropriate by CC&V, site documentation (with
photos and maps) would be completed prior to relocation or disturbance.
This structure is within the proposed Phase 5 VIT extension footprint.
•
', ? q/s-Iqi--
The Anchoria-Leland Kline is located in the NW quarter of Section 19 along the western flank of
Gold Hill. The Gold Hill area was one of the earliest areas to be explored with numerous claims
staked by 1894. Even by 1892 the Anchoria Leland Mining and Milling Company owned
several mines in the area.
The Anchoria-Leland Mine, site 5TL344, was originally recorded in 1987 and it appears there
has been no subsequent site documentation. The archaeological surveys completed in the 1990"'
by Western Cultural Resource Management and Paragon Archaeological Consultants did not
-tl cover the western portion of Gold Hill.
The Anchoria-Leland headframe (or `allows frame) is the last large historic headframe structure
remaining in the Gold Hill area that is visible from the town of Cripple Creek. The structure
measures approximately 23 ft. x 65 ft. (including diagonal braces) and stands approximately 60
ft. tall.
The other structures remainim, at the Anchoria-Leland Mine include a large ore sorting house, a
hoist house, and a smaller sorting house or ore bin. Most support features appear to be in poor
condition and may not he candidates for relocation. Because of the size and complexity of
• reloca011111 the larger structures. additional evaluation may he required.
Anchoria-Leland Mine Complex
