CC&V contracted Cuartelejo
HP Associates, Inc (Cuartelejo) to complete a review of known historic (greater than 50 years
old) cultural resources within the proposed MLE area and assist with an evaluation of historic
structures or features that may be considered for relocation or other type of mitigation as part of
the proposed MLE project. As part of the review completed by Cuartelejo, available
records/documents at the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP), Colorado
Historical Society files in Denver, Colorado were researched for known archaeological sites
within the proposed MLE area. Upon completion of the archival research and compilation of
information, a further field evaluation was undertaken of the known historic architectural sites
and features in areas where planned impacts associated with the proposed MLE project are
anticipated. CC&V and Cuartelejo have completed an initial review and compiled a list of
visually prominent historic sites for further evaluation based on known architectural features and
significance in the mining district.
These sites represent structures or features with potential to enhance the historic education and
appeal of the Cripple Creek Mining District. The structures are largely un-maintained,
deteriorating features. The enclosed information comes largely from prior building surveys and
• site reports prepared for CC&V. Additional field review may be required to determine those
features that could be considered for possible relocation to alternative. This information is
provided to meet the Teller County Land Use Regulation requirement to provide a listing of
historic structures within the proposed MLE project area.
Eight features have been identified for further evaluation to determine the value of the feature,
document the physical condition of the feature, and determine features that could be stabilized
sufficiently to provide relocation to alternative areas in CC&V's discretion outside the proposed
MLE project area. Refer to the discussions and photos below and attached map. In addition,
CC&V plans to consult with the Southern Teller County Focus Group (STCFG) to help
determine those features that may be relocated and to determine suitable relocation sites. A
qualified construction/moving company would be consulted to determine those features that can
successfully be relocated. CC&V would then update this report with a schedule of those features
in its discretion that may be relocated and a proposed timeframe of activity as part of the
proposed MLE project.
Structure Listing
May B.
