• 13.16 Quality Assurance and Quality Control
Construction quality assurance and quality control are an integral part of the construction
plan for the Phase 5 VLF comparable to quality assurance and quality control that has
been implemented for the entire VLF. The quality assurance and quality control for the
construction of the Phase 5 VLF is discussed in Sections 6.3.3, 6.3.4 and 6.3.5 of the
Project Description. In addition, Appendix 8, Volumes V and VI of this document
contains Technical Specifications which include quality assurance and quality control
requirements.
13.17 Plant Growth Medium
A soil survey report is discussed in Section 4.7 of this Project Description and included as
Appendix 3, Volume III of this document. Appendix 3 includes a soils map. The
reclamation discussion in Section 11.0 of the Project Description contains information on
growth medium salvage and replacement as well as the testing and determination of the
need for amendments. Mining has occurred in the area of the Cresson Project, including
the MLE, for over 100 years and as such many areas have had soils disturbed by previous
mining activities. CC&V collects and stockpiles growth medium whenever possible and
• will use stockpiled materials in reclamation, prioritizing use in accordance with the plan
presented in Section 11.0 of the Project Description in the event that the previous
disturbances do not allow for adequate growth medium salvage.
13.18 Wildlife Protection
A description of the measures to protect wildlife from coming into contact with
designated chemicals is contained in the discussion of the Phase 5 in Section 6.0 of the
Project Description. The designated chemicals principally are contained in the internal
PSSAs or in the existing ADR facilities. CC&V utilizes buried drip emitters to apply
leach solutions to the VLF and therefore ponded solutions are not anticipated. CC&V
also utilizes a sump to transfer solutions from Phase III to the Phase II PSSA, this sump is
covered with four inch HDPE balls and is fenced for wildlife protection. Measures to
ensure wildlife protection for the ESP have been previously reviewed and approved under
Amendment No. 8 and will not change under the MLE.
13.19 Disposal of Tailings and Sludges in Mine Workings
No tailings or sludges will be disposed in mine workings as part of the MLE operations.
• Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
13-11
