• mining to help separate the mining activities from the Cripple Creek veiwshed.
These transplanting activities will be coordinated to assist in reestablishing
wildlife movement corridors throughout the reclaimed slopes. All transplanted
"pads" of mature aspen will be irrigated for two growing seasons following
transplanting to facilitate establishment of the trees.
North facing slopes within the North Cresson reclamation area will be planted
with about 400 stems per acre of one-year aspen seedlings as part of CC&V's site
wide forest reclamation proposal to further encourage the reestablishment of
aspen acreage in the North Cresson reclamation area.
11.4.2 Overburden Storage Areas
There are two OSAs to be reclaimed under the MLE: (1) the SGOSA, including
SGOSA Extension, which will blend with the backfilled Schist Island portion of
the North Cresson Mine area and (2) the ECOSA, which will blend with the
backfilled Wildhorse and Altman portions of the East Cresson Mine area (see
Drawing F-1). Backfilling is planned in the Schist Island portion of the North
Cresson Mine area, the East Creston Mine area, and portions of Main Cresson
• Mine area, as shown conceptually on Drawing C-5. The amount of backfilling is
dependent on potentially changing conditions such as project economics and may
vary from that shown on Drawing C-5. Reclamation of each of the OSAs and
backfilled portions of the mine areas is addressed separately below.
It continues to be CC&V's plan to perform concurrent reclamation of portions of
these areas while other portions remain active and, thus, to achieve partial
reclamation prior to completion of mining. However, the schedule used to
develop the financial warranty for the MLE as presented in Section 12.0 does not
reflect concurrent reclamation in order to provide a comprehensive and
conservative estimate of the costs required for final closure of the entire
operation.
SGOSA
The SGOSA will continue to be reclaimed on a concurrent basis where possible
during implementation of the MLE. Overburden will continue to be added to the
existing SGOSA until it reaches the maximum extent and height for that facility.
The SGOSA Extension will be constructed downhill to the southwest of the Schist
Island portion of the North Cresson Mine area. Portions of the SGOSA will be
• Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
11-8
