• relocated in order to allow mining of the North Cresson Mine area under the
MLE. The area designated as SGOSA will be modified with some of the
disturbance reclassified as mining disturbance (see Section 5.3). This will affect
the reclaimed lower lifts in the north and northwestern portion of the SGOSA.
The relocation of this material is discussed in Section 5.7.1. When mining is
completed in the Schist Island portion of the- North Cresson Mine area, the mine
area will be backfilled and blended with the SGOSA as shown on Figure F-1.
Once the maximum footprint has been reached, the outslopes will be graded to
final overall grades of approximately 2.5H:1 V. More steep and less steep sections
of slopes will be formed within this overall outslope to generate irregular
landforms.
Once mining and backfilling is completed in the Schist Island portion of the North
Cresson Mine area, the backfilling will be graded to blend with the SGOSA as
discussed below under the "Surface Mine Backfill Areas" discussion. The final
elevation of the SGOSA is approximately 10,600 feet and will be slightly higher
than the 10,436 foot topographic high designated as "Globe Hill" prior to mining
of that area.
• Benches on the order of 8-10 feet wide may be retained along the reclaimed
slopes at intervals that both reduce the length of "run" (flow path length) of
surface runoff and provide access for revegetation activities. These benches also
may be used to capture and convey runoff to other areas.
The growth medium salvaged from the MLE areas, along with the material
already stockpiled, will allow placement of about six inches on the SGOSA,
including the SGOSA Extension. The soil will be sampled to determine the need
for soil amendments. Vegetation will be established in accordance with the
procedures outlined above in Section 11.3.
As approved in previous permit applications, it is anticipated that some slopes
areas may be plated with coarse rock for runoff protection and to emulate the rock
piles from historic underground mine workings. These plated areas would not be
revegetated because the coarse rock prevents erosion. Drainage channels or
benches developed on the OSAs will be candidates for similar plating with rock
and some slopes may, in their entirety, be suitably plated with the overburden as a
backdrop for other compatible uses.
• Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
11-9
