Site Description (cont) Exhibit B
PERMANENT MAN-MADE STRUCTURES
A dirt road is the only structure within 200 feet of the
affected lands and is it owned by the landowner we leased the
gravel from. There are no above or below ground communication or
power lines, fences, bridges, wells, pipelines, water storage
impoundments, railroad tracks, cemeteries or communication antennas
within 200 feet of the affected lands.
WATER RESOURCES
There are no water structures on the site. The closest stream
is the Huerfano River that at its closest point is approximately
1,550 feet north of the site. The floor of the mine will be ap-
proximately 20 feet above the river flood plane. Mining will not
reach the ground water table. Our investigations indicate the
ground water table is more than 35 to 65 feet below the surface of
the site, so no ground water will be exposed.
Review of well data on the surrounding areas indicate the
highest water table is associated with the river alluvium that is
approximately 35 feet below the floor level of the mine. We do not
expect to encounter ground water on this site for that reason. We
will not affect the hydrologic balance of surface or subsurface
water in the area.
MINING PLAN EXHIBIT C
6.3.3 - This is an open pit mine located approximately 8.7
miles north northwest of Walsenburg, Colorado on County Road 613.
From Walsenburg take.I-25 north, 8.23 miles to exit 59 (Butte Road
Exit); the west frontage road at this exit provides access to
County Road 613 just north of the off ramp. Take CR 613 west 1.5
miles to a farm road on the south; follow this farm road approxi-
mately 300 feet to the mine entrance. Mining access will be via
this existing road that is a owned by the landowner to access his
property from CR 613. It is currently 20 feet wide and the loca-
tion is shown on the map exhibits supplied with this application.
Periodic grading will be necessary to keep the road in its present
condition and to make it passable. It will remain after mining is
complete.
We anticipate the life of this mine to be between 10 and 15
years depending on the amount of material in the mine and the
market demand. The site is currently used as pasture and consists
of a gravel terrace parallelling the southern side of the Huerfano
River. The usable material on this site ranges from 5 to 30+ feet
21
