MINING PLAN EXHIBIT C
deep. The soil covering the gravel averages 0 to 8 inches deep
with a layer of overburden ranging from 20 to 60 inches deep.
North of the site between the county road and the gravel face is an
area mined out some time in the past. We suspect the material from
this area was used when I-25 was built. Very little reclamation
was done on the site and there appears to be little or no salvage-
able topsoil on the old mine area. We expect to re-disturb approx-
imately 2.17 acres ± of this area as shown on the Pre-Mining Plan
map, Map Exhibit E-1. A north facing unreclaimed slope was left by
the old miners and the gravel was left exposed when the old mining
operations ended. In some areas a near vertical face exists on
this old mining face. On the east end we will blend the old slope
with new east facing slope in the northeast corner of the site but
no reclamation will be done on the area outside the new permit
area.
We plan to start mining on this old face and use the mined out
area within the permit boundary as plant site and stockpile areas.
This will create a level area that "day lites" out the hill on the
north side, leaving an amphitheater like basin in the hillside when
mining ends. The east and south slopes will be graded 3:1 and the
west slope will be the natural hillside on the west died of the
drainage.
The material will be used to supply asphalt base, road base
and pit run fill material to our clients. The land will remain
rangeland as mining progresses and once reclamation is complete the
area will be reseeded so it will have the same use. Initially, a
slight depression will be created so surface water runoff can be
contained on the site until reclamation is complete. All
stormwater on the site will be directed to this depressed area.
Prior to mining a section of the upper bench will be stripped of
topsoil and overburden. The topsoil will be placed around the mine
setback or mine floor for used in reclamation. The overburden will
be stored in the draw on the south end of the mine. As mining
progresses into the deposit the east and west slope will be left
near vertical and reject material from the processing plant will be
placed adjacent to these faces. Once enough material is placed the
3h to 1v slope will be graded. This filling and shaping will run
concurrent with mining so that if mining ended prematurely only 50
feet or less would need filling, grading and resoiling. The over-
burden stored in the south draw would be used to complete the
filling on this area.
22
