• REJECT PILE STABILITY
During the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board review of the previous
two studies, questions were raised concerning field verification of the densities
of the materials in the reject pile. Previous analysis had indicated that
wheel rolling, as would occur during construction of the reject pile, should
develop sufficient compactive effort to obtain the required design density of
95 percent. However, field testing of the placed reject material had not
occurred. Accordingly GEX-Colorado retained ARIX and Lincoln DeVore (Soils
Engineering Consultants) to conduct density testing within the pile and to do
further stability analysis of the material in the reject pile in order to
determine the condition of stability of the reject pile.
• Test Hole Borin
Seven test holes Caere drilled in January 198D into the reject pile. These
holes were located to cover the entire pile and be representative of the materials
contained. The holes were advanced with a 4-inch continuous flight power auger.
Samples were extracted at various locations in each hole using a California
Split Spoon sampler and with 2-1/2" diameter Shelby tubes. The holes all pene-
trated the entire reject pile material and were advanced into the underlying
natural ground.
Complete logs of the seven test holes are included in Appendix A to this
report.
Analysis of Test Hoie Samples
The samples obtained from the test holes were
• and unconfined strength testing.
