1992), and moisture. Observations were recorded on the attached USACE approved data
sheets.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The proposed Arends, Reinoehl, and Archuleta project will extract aggregate materials
from alluvial deposits within the site employing dry mining techniques. The post-mining
site will be reclaimed in accordance with the reclamation plan approved by the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety.
SITE DESCRIPTION
The most significant topographic feature adjacent to the project area is the South Platte
River. The average elevation of the site is 4990 feet and the proposed development site
slopes very gently west toward the river. An irrigation ditch that collects tailwater flows
from southwest to northeast along the west boundary of the Arends parcel.
According to the Soil Survey of Adams County, Colorado (1974), three different soil
map units are located within the site. The map units are in bands trending southwest to
northeast that parallel the South Platte River channel. The soil units include Nunn loam
(0 to 1% slopes and 1 to 3% slopes), Dacono loam (0 to 1% slopes), and terrace
escarpments.
The potential wetlands investigated were located within the terrace escarpment map unit.
Terrace escarpments occur as breaks or steep sided slopes adjacent to the channels of
present or former streams. This soil unit consists of alluvium of variable materials and is
very shallow over gravel and sand. These materials have a loamy sand or sandy loam
surface layer. In many areas this layer is 5 to 20 percent gravel. Terrace escarpments are
not listed as hydric by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE, 1987).
Ready Mixed Concrete - Arends, Reinoehl, and Archuleta Site Page 2
Wetland Delineation
