INTRODUCTION
Savage and Savage conducted a jurisdictional wetland delineation within the Arends,
Reinoehl, and Archuleta site for Ready Mixed Concrete Company on September 14,
2007. The proposed development site is located west of the intersection of Brighton
Road and 144' Avenue in Adams County, Colorado (Figures 1. and 2.). From Denver,
the site is accessed by traveling north on U.S. Highway 85 to 144' Avenue, west on 144th
Avenue to Brighton Road, and north on Brighton Road to the Boral Brighton Quarry.
The proposed development site is accessed from the quarry. The latitude of the center of
project site is 39° 57' 30" degrees North with a corresponding longitude of 104° 50' 39"
degrees West. The average elevation of the project site is 4990 feet. The site lies within
portions of Sections 13, 14, 23, and 24, Township 1 South, Range 67 West of the 6th
Prime Meridian, Adams County, Colorado.
STUDY NT IETHODS
A jurisdictional wetland delineation was conducted within the Arends, Reinoehl, and
Archuleta parcels in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual (USACE, 1987). To determine the areas subject
to Corps jurisdiction, three criteria were evaluated: (1) evidence of a hydrologic regime
reflecting saturation or periodic inundation by surface or ground water of sufficient
duration and frequency, (2) soils which are considered hydric by classification or field
characteristics indicating anaerobic conditions, and (3) a prevalence of vegetation
typically adapted to areas of wetland hydrology and soils.
At five sample points within potential wetland areas the three wetland criteria were
evaluated. Dominant individual plant species were identified, and their wetland indicator
status was assessed (USFWS, 1988). Evidence of the hydrologic regime was collected
and evaluated. A soil test pit was dug using a core auger to 18 inches at each sample
point. Soil horizons were inspected and described using texture, soil color (Munsell,
Ready Mixed Concrete - Arends, Reinoehl, and Archuleta Site Page 1
Wetland Delineation
