the presently unincorporated portions of the proposed expansion area following
completion of annexation of Ready Mixed Pit No. 1.
Ready Mixed is proposing to create seven additional phases of mining to the
permit consisting of approximately seven to 18 acre mining areas as shown on Figure D1.
Mining is currently occurring at Erger's Pond Pit with material transferred from that pit
to the Bromley Lakes Pit plant via conveyor the sits on the land bridge between the
Bromley Lakes plant and the Erger's Pond Pit site. Following completion of mining of
Erger's Pond Pit (estimated to be during 2010), the land bridge will be wet-mined (as
already currently planned and permitted) from north to south towards the plant and
conveyor disassembled and removed as the mining progresses. When the northern three-
quarters of the land bridge are mined out the earth berm between the two halves of Ken
Mitchell lakes will be gone, creating one large reservoir. Removal of the southern
quarter of the land bridge will complete the mining in the eastern part of the north half of
Bromley Lakes Pit Cell No. 2. A "jump" will be made to leave the part of the land bridge
containing the existing Ken Mitchell Lakes slurry wall and City of Aurora Prairie Waters
Pipeline, which already traverse the land bridge a the south end of the existing reservoir
through which the land bridge exists. 50 ft geotechnical setbacks will be made from
these structures. In total, the land bridge as defined herein comprises 12.4 acres and is
referred to as Phase 11.
Prior to mining in within the western portion of the proposed 77.0 acre expansion
area, the McCann Ditch will be relocated as shown on Figure D1, Exhibit D - Mining
Plan. The design approach is to relocate the ditch to follow the contour of the eastern
limit of the South Platte River 100-year floodplain, thereby expanding potential water
storage acreage within the floodplain. A slurry wall will be installed west (downgradient
of) the ditch after its relocation. Mined areas east of the relocated ditch and above the
floodplain will be reclaimed as cropland using overburden from the various Ready Mixed
mining operations in the area to backfill to approximate existing topography.
Mining of the proposed 77.0 acre expansion area will begin by mining a 250 ft
wide strip along Brighton Road. This will be done inside a 50 ft geotechnical setback
along the road to preclude potential settlement impacts to the road right-of-way and
parallel subsurface utilities. This will be Phase 12 and will comprise 10.5 acres.
21
