1998-036) to the north. Current mining activities are occurring at Erger's
Pond Pit.
3. Ready Mixed Pit No. 1 is presently 100 percent mined out and has regraded
and revegetated slopes in an open lake configuration connected to the
southwestern part of Bromley Lakes Pit Cell No. 3. The subject southwestern
portion of Bromley Lakes Pit is presently mined out, but not yet reclaimed.
The physical boundary between these two separate permitted pits was mined
out by Technical Revision to both permits. The boundary is currently
permitted to be replaced with engineered fill to replace it and separate an open
lake to the north and constructed wetlands to the south. This amendment
seeks to rescind the plan for replacing the boundary and proposes creating
water storage from the combined area at the request of the City of Brighton
who is seeking to maximize water storage potential in the vicinity.
4. Ready Mixed Cell No. 2, presently permitted as open lakes/wildlife habitat
will remain so, but will likely comprise more a series of shallow ponds and
wetland areas rather than the single deep lake originally envisioned. Plant
discharge fines have been higher than anticipated to date and have filled
portions of Cell No. 2 as it is used for sedimentation ponds between the plant
and the river discharge locations. Cell 2 will remain unlined, open lakes with
shallow ponds and wetlands, and will serve as a ground water pathway to the
river between Ken Mitchell Lakes Reservoir (former Bromley Lakes Pit Cell
No. 1) to the north and the proposed new City of Brighton water storage to the
south that will be created from Cell No. 3, Ready Mixed Pit No. 1, and the
floodplain portions of the new expansion area by this amendment.
5. The proposed new 77.0 acre expansion area is currently used as cropland and
pasture with some portions laying fallow or consisting of overgrazed pasture.
Former landowners have stayed on as tenants with Ready Mixed after Ready
Mixed purchased their properties. Agreements are in place for the tenants to
vacate the properties prior to mining by Ready Mixed, probably in
approximately three years.. The proposed new expansion area consists of three
19
