Applicant's Response:
The Applicant commits to not exposing ground water until the Morton Lakes Substitute Supply Plan
has been approved by the Office of the State Engineer.
6.4.12 EXIIIBIT L-Reclamation Costs
"The following information will be required at a minimum: location and projected sizes of topsoil
and overburden piles will need to be specified so that hauling costs can be determined... "
Applicant's Response:
The following is based on a maximum disturbed area of 60 acres. For example, mining Stages 2 and
3 total 58 acres. Overburden and topsoil stockpiles will be located on the pit floor of each mining
stage. The minimum overburden required to backfill Stage 2 slopes is estimated to be 60,000 cubic
yards with and additional 4,000 cubic yards of topsoil, at a thickness of 12 inches, required to
reclaim the perimeter of the stage and 10 feet of the pit slope. Stage 3 will require a minimum of
100,000 cubic yards of overburden to backfill the pit slopes and 6,300 cubic yards of topsoil at 12
inches thickness.
Note: Pit slopes will be excavated at a slope ratio of 1.3:1 with a finished (reclaimed) slope ratio of
3:1.
For purposes of calculating haul costs a maximum one way distance of 1,200 feet is recommended.
No trees or shrubs will be planted in Stage 1 as part of the reclamation plan.
".. justification for estimates of costs for conveyor removal and demo and salvage costs; "
Applicant's Response:
Attached is the Division's reclamation cost estimate for Holton Lakes 112c permit (M-2007-036)
dated: August 16, 2007. The Applicant supports the use of the Holton Lakes reclamation cost
estimates to calculate the Morton Lakes reclamation costs.
"...sequencing and dimensions of slurry walls to be installed and supporting information for
reduced bond options if desired. "
Applicant's Response:
Attached is the bid proposal for slurry wall installation prepared by September 17, 2008 by Hall-
Irwin for the Applicant. The reservoirs identified in the bid proposal are divided between Holton and
Morton Lakes as follows:
Reservoir # 1 is Holton Lakes; reservoirs # 2 and 3 are combined Morton and Holton Lakes and,
reservoirs # 4 and 5 are Morton Lakes only.
3/3/2009
