Specificstions Contd. -_- - - :: _. _
~~ c) Placing and Compacting -The drainage filter shall be
• ~ placed at the downstream toe in continuous, approximately
horizontal layers not more than 12 inches in compacted
thickness. When each layer of material has been conditioned
to have the required moisture, it shall be compacted by
no less than six passes of the treads of a A0,000 pound
.crawler tractor.
S.~ Imperivous Zone - .
a) Material -The material 4vi11 be clay-silt with little sand
and medium plasticity. The material is located at the desig-
nated borrow area.
~.
b) Moisture and Compaction -The distribution of materials shall
be such that the compacted material will be homogeneous
and free from lenses, pockets, streaks, or other imperfec-.
lions. The material shall be deposited in horizontal layers
not more than six inches thick after being compacted. The
excavating and placing operations shall be such that the
' material when compacted will be. blended sufficiently to secure
~ the best practicable degree of compaction, impermeability,
•~ and stability. Compaction and moisture content will meet
the follocving:
1) .Compaction to at least 95°5 of standard proc*.or density,
with an average density of 98'5,
11) Moisture content shall range between 1% below and 3%
above optimum moisture content,
6. Pervious Zone -
a) Material -The materials to be used for the pervious zone
shall be selected pervious mistures of sand, gravel, and cobbles,
reasonably well graded to 3 inches maximum size. Fragments
larger than 3 inches may be used if well distributed in the
zone. The pervious zone shall not ccntain more than 545,
by weight, of material passing a United States Standard No. 200
sieve, The pervious material will be obtained from the '
designated borrow area. Soil testing done by Geotek Inc.
(See attached report) and by Utah International, Inc, at the
pervious borrow area shows a sufficient supply of graded
gravel with less than 245 passing a n200 sieve.
~~
' ;~
' ~ 12 -
REVISED

FEB 1 z_az
