Colowyo C-1981-019
20 January 2009
Pg 4/4
General Mine Plan Compliance (cont): - Most of the X-Pod coal has been removed.
There is just a small reserve remaining to be mined at a later date.
- The mining at the Colowyo Mine appears to be progressing as discussed and
approved in the PAP.
Fish and Wildlife: There were a large number of deer seen in the Taylor draw area.
Air Resource Protection: The haul roads in the East, West and South Taylor Pits were all
dry, despite the snow around the rest of the site. There was some dust on these
roads. The operator was working on getting their water wagon running at the shop
area and it looked like it was started when we were inspecting the Wash Bay Pond.
Excess Spoil: - The current active dump area for the South Taylor Pit is the C-C'
underdrain area of the East Taylor fill. The rock drain for this area has been
completed and is covered with filter fabric. The operator has done some end
dumping in the bottom area of the fill and there are many piles of end dumped spoil
in the area. These piles will be covered as the fill increases in height. The main dump
area is along the west side of the fill where the spoil is being dumped down the west
edge to fill the valley up to the permitted height. The fill has advanced to within
several hundred feet of the crusher bench. Once the pile advances closer to this
bench, the crusher will be relocated.
This completes the 20 January 2009 inspection report for the Colowyo Mine.
