between Phase I and Phase II reclamation. Mr. Hernandez reports that shrub clump SC-F-4
should be bladed. I did not personally observe this location.
Vegetation is not establishing as quickly on a reclaimed road in F-AB-06 (Phase I only). This is
normal due to compaction of earth materials.
- The double wing rock check dams look good uphill but downhill
need maintenance. The channel is down-cutting and has jumped its
" k 5 channel in places (see figure 5). This area was discussed and
maintenance will be performed by TMI. DBMS and if possible
OSM will revisit the area before bond release is granted.
Fig.5:F-AB-06 erosion around wing check dams
The north end of F-AB-05 looks great. Vegetation is well-established and the area is stable;
however, Tumble Mustard is a large portion. Mr. Roberts informed us that this weed is common
in second year reclamation, but tends to diminish quickly on its own. This area is very steep and
was only aerially seeded.
The southern portions of A-B-98 (Phase III) are well-
vegetated with tall grasses and a diversity of other plants. The
drainage channel passing through the Phase III area has been -
excluded from this bond release although it appears stable. A
power cable corridor had been blazed through the west side of
the western edge of the western plot (see figure 6). This
corridor is reportedly not for driving purposes—the power
cable supplies power to the draglines in F Pit. Mr. Roberts . µ
was not aware that this corridor had been cleared. This
unfortunate circumstance will necessitate TMI to carve out the Fig.6:New A-B-98 corridor
disturbed area from the bond release map and restart its liability time period back to
Phase I (clock will restart when area is regraded and stabilized. TMI does this in conjunction
with topsoiling and seeding).
Heading north from the smaller plots in A-B-98 (Phase III),tall grasses dominate but some
thistle patches exist. Drainage channels have been excluded from this bond release and do not
appear well stabilized or vegetated. Crossing over to the larger plot, there is a sparse shrub
clump, SC-A-99. Mr. Roberts informed us that this depression collects water and is mangrove-
like in the spring.
Z-AB-05 (Phase I) looks great on the west side with well established vegetation and stable
slopes, but small rills are beginning to form by the haul road. The shrub clump SC-Z-07 has a
major thistle problem. However, this area has not been topsoiled (only the clumps of soil
transplanted with shrubs, no topsoil has been spread) or seeded. No major signs of erosion were
present,but minor cracking was observed.
