This pit is ideally located for maintaining county roads located north of
Interstate 70 from Bovina to the Kit Carson County Line and for a distance of
8 or more miles north. Increased demands for maintenance and for upgrading
them to higher standards have forced the county to rely on this pit more and
more. The material mined in this pit is sandy enough with enough binder to
make it an ideal surfacing material as opposed to the clay or silty type material
normally found in this area of the county.
