The first step in the operation will be removal of all
buildings and other structures. Next will be the
stripping and storage on site of l'-2+ of topsoil and
other overburden material for use in later
revegetation activities from the 9+ acres of the
mining area that weren't previously covered by
buildings or used as driveways.
Mining was originally proposed to proceed from
northwest to southeast. However, by agreement with the
City of Thornton mining will proceed from southeast
from along the I-76 Frontage Road to the north and
northwest as shown on the accompanying Exhibit C-1
(Revised) -Mining Plan Map and described as follows
with the below acreage including required setback
areas:
1. The first 3.9+ acres of mining will occur in the
southwest corner of the site, and proceed north and
east along the west side of the entrance road onto
the site. Once a l+- acre area has been excavated,
backfilling with inert material consisting only of
uncontaminated soils with negligible amounts of
concrete, asphalt, masonary, sand and gravel will be
initiated.
A 1-,4+ acre area in the extreme southwest corner of
the site will only be filled to slightly above the
ground water level to provide for containment of
stormwater and for the eventual construction of a
one of two stormwater detention ponds for future
industrial development on the site. Once backfilling
is above the water table, allowed inert filling
material will be expanded to include a compacted
mixture of inert soils and crushed fines that were
approved as an inert material on FHP property by the
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
(CDPHE). Mining will proceed north until the
excavated area is roughly 3.9+ acres in size on line
with the east-west boundaries of the property to
properties on the west and east.
5
