7. Please provide a description in the permit application text that explains the process of discharging
mine water when the underground sump is being cleaned out.
8. On revised page 2.05-69, the mine water analyses presented do not include all of the chemical
constituents listed in the NPDES permit for mine water discharge outfall 006. Please revise the
mine water analyses on page 2.05-69 to include all of the chemical parameters that will be listed in
the soon to be revised NPDES permit and provide a complete copy of the laboratory analyses to
the Division.
9. The probable hydrologic consequences table on revised page 2.05-73 presents analyses for flow,
TDS, manganese and iron. However, the current NPDES permit requires sampling for other
chemical constituents as well. Please revise the PHC table and discussion to include analyses for
all of the chemical constituents that will be included in the soon to be revised NPDES permit.
10. On proposed page 2.05-69, please change D-8 to B-8 in the table.
Section 4.05.10, Underground Mine Entry and Access Discharges
11. Please demonstrate compliance with Rule 4.05.10(2), if applicable.
Section 4.05.16, Discharge of Water into an Underground Mine
12. Please demonstrate compliance with Rule 4.05.16(4) for discharges of underground water to the
surface.
Public and Other Agency Comments
13. Attached is a comment letter that the Division received from the Colorado Division of Water
Resources concerning TR-54. That agency has no concerns with the proposed activities provided that
the pumped water is not used in any way and that it is discharged to the North Fork of the Gunnison
River as proposed. If and when any additional comment letters are received, they will be forwarded to
BRL.
If you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
J eph J.
