Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company MLE Traffic Impact Study
average rate of 28 trucks per day and an estimated maximum potential of 50 trucks per
day).
Right now, deliveries to the Ironclad access (an actual count of 14 trucks per day) are
almost to the estimated maximum potential level (projected maximum of 17 trucks per
day) while the deliveries to the Carlton access (an actual count of 20 trucks per day) are
under the estimated average rate (23 trucks per day) and well under the projected
maximum of 33 trucks per day.
Other Mine Traffic
Some of the traffic that has been associated with mining operations in the past does not
currently exist. Mobilization and construction traffic associated with mining expansion is
one example. Currently, there are no construction or expansion activities, so this traffic
does not exist at the present time. However there will be some additional traffic
associated with the construction of the Phase 5 VLF in Arequa Gulch. That traffic will
only be temporary traffic, however, and will not be a part of the normal everyday traffic
once that facility is built.
IMPACTS OF MINE-RELATED TRAFFIC ON ROADWAY
FACII ITIES
Existing Peak Hour Turning Movement Traffic
Fourteen-hour turning movement counts at the Carlton and Ironclad mine accesses were
taken in October 2007. From this information, the AM and PM peak hour turning
movement traffic volumes were calculated. Figure 3 shows the Year 2007 AM and PM
peak hour turning movement volumes at the Carlton and Ironclad mine access points.
tll
d
U
Q
z 8 (0)18 (0~ CRBd
m
V 33 (1) / 15 (0)
1 ~\\
4 (1) / 18 (0) 3 (0) 114 (0) 0 9 (e) 113 (o)
Q ~ ~ 5 (0) I 1 (0)
J ~
U
SH 67 0 16 (0)127 (1) 6 (O) I 1 (0)
4 (4) 11 (o) J ~4 (0) / 2 (0)
18 (1)152 (0)-' '-39 (1)153 (0)
xx xz) =All Traffic, AM Peak (Truck Traffic), AM Peak I All Traffic, PM Peak (Truck Traffic), PM Peak
N'igure 3 -Existing AM and PM Peak Hour Turning Movement Volumes, Carlton
and Ironclad access points
In order to analyze the operational impacts of the existing mine traffic, peak hour turning
movement traffic at the Ironclad and Carlton entrances was counted and analyzed
according to the methods and procedures of the Year 2000 Him v Capacity Manual
(HCM) as applied in the Highway Capacity Software.
•
Interstate Engineering, Inc. 7 April, 2008
