Chapter V
Two additional sediment ponds may be constructed, in addition to the three in place, to;
• provide additional storage volume for handling the sediment load from mine
discharges. TR-5 of October 16, 1986 approved construction of the ponds. See App.
II-B-3 for supporting calculations.
Reclamation of the large tunnel fill area on the south side of the Dutch Creek drainage
will commence after final completion of the tunnel project, when there is no further
material to be placed on the site. As noted, further work on the tunnel must still be
done and involves driving lateral extensions to workings accessed now by#3, #4, and
#5 entries, and continuation of the tunnel to a break-out point west of Huntsman Ridge.
That work will generate additional underground development waste, which will be
placed in this area.
Reclamation of this tunnel fill area will involve topsoil placement and revegetation with
the approved 8,000' seed mixture.
The topsoil piles (there are two, one below the sediment ponds, and one on the south
side of Dutch Creek) have been seeded with the temporary seed mix.
C. Haul Roads.
Measures are taken to control erosion to the extent possible on Roads A, B, C, D, E, F
• and G. The Morrison Knudsen Haul Road Drainage Control Plan drainage control plan
is found at Appendix II-B-7 Att. 2. A plan for additional sediment control measures to
be taken by C.S. Coal (as successor to Mid-Continent Resources) in conjunction with
the resumption of mining is also found at Appendix II-13-7 Att. 2. Maps indicating the
proposed locations of these additional measures are found at Vol. 3-1, 11-13-7 Att. 2 (1)=
(7)•
Road segments A, B, C, D, E, F and G access mine portals #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and the
rock tunnel surface facilities. All were constructed and have been used for coal
haulage, but are classified according to current usage. Road segments A, B and D are
classified as Access Roads and road segments C, E, F and G are classified Light Use'.
Roads. However, the operator reserves the right, as may be necessary for maximum
recovery of the coal resource, to resume coal haulage on these road segments.
Measures will be taken on a site specific basis to achieve sediment control to the
greatest extent possible prior to final reclamation, and these include:
Drainage Ditches. The inside drainage ditch has beentwill be moved out approximately
10' from the hillside into the road (new ditch to be referred to as the road drainage
ditch). The culvert drainage system remains functional with the new road drainage
ditch. In this way, the road surface is narrowed. Moving the drainage ditch away from
• the toe of the hill protects road drainage from sloughage off the hillside as the original
ditch serves as a berm/buffer zone.
17
Revised 7/92
