Colowyo C-1981-019
18 March 2008
Pg 2/4
Hydrologic Balance: -The wash bay pond (not a NPDES discharge point) contained
water approximately three feet below the top of the embankment and was not
discharging. This is a total containment pond and discharge into the Work Area Pond
triggers BTEX testing (in addition to regular NPDES testing). The operator and the
contractors use this pond for water for their water trucks. The pond embankment was
covered with snow but appeared to be well vegetated and stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems were noted on the pond embankment at the time
of the inspection.
-The Gossard Pond (NPDES 003A) contained water approximately three feet below
the riser pipe anc~ was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond
embankment wc~s well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the
inspection. The Emergency spillway is a 12" culvert.
-The Rail Loop Pend (NPDES OO6A) was not accessible at the time of the inspection
because a train ~~vas being loaded.
-The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) contained water and was discharging from the
weep hole at thE~ bottom of the discharge pipe at the time of the inspection. The
discharge looked clear. The pond embankment was covered with some snow but it
appeared to be well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. The
emergency spillv~ay is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway
appeared to be stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection. The pond
was recently cleaned but there did appear to be a plume of sediment at the inlet
from the recent runoff.
- The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due
to snow.
- The Section 16 Fond (NPDES 009) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due
to snow (and will probably remain so until April or May).
-The Streeter Porid (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately one foot below the
discharge pipe aind was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The cischarge appeared to be clear. The pond embankment was
partially covered with snow but appeared to be well vegetated and stable at the
time of the inspe~~tion. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time
of the inspection, The discharge from the Streeter Pond enters Goodspring Creek
then flows through a large culvert under Colorado Highway 13. CDOT is responsible
for keeping this culvert clean and it does appear as though it has been recently
cleaned.
-The Section 28 Fond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment
was covered with snow but appeared to be stable. The pond embankment has
been seeded (this past fall). No erosional problems were noted on the pond
embankment at the time of the inspection.
