5. According to Division calculations 40.6 acres were reseeded in 2003. Please
submit seed tags or a bulk seed purchase invoice for the seed mix used.
6. The dates of the bond release inspections in the report text should be 2002
rather than 2003.
I have attached the revised forms with acreages as understood through review of the
information since 2001. Please consider these acreage values when revising the forms
for 2002 and 2003. 1 have also included a summary of the values, as I understand
them below. Additionally, I have included a blank report form for future use.
The mine disturbed 97.5 acres. 7.6 of these acres are in long term mining
facilities that are not subject to reclamation because they are permanent features
(like roads or structures) approved for the post- mining land use. As of 2003,
another 7.8 acres are not reclaimed yet because they are temporary features
necessary during the liability period (like sediment ponds and soil stockpiles).
These results in 82.1 acres that have been backfilled, graded topsoiled, and
reseeded to the permanent mix as the end of 2003. Since the 2003 reseeding
took place in October of 2003, 2004 was the first growing season for all areas
reported reseeded in the 2003 calendar year. Since shrubs were replanted in
the spring of 2004 before any significant growth, the 2004 growing season would
start the liability clock for all areas reseeded in the fall of 2003.
The area reseeded in 2003 is estimated as follows: 82.1 ac — 41.5 ac = 40.6 ac
(40.5 ac done as of 2000, 1.0 ac done in 2001 = 41.5 ac)
At some point in the future, the mine will likely report 89.9 ac reseeded (97.5 ac
— 7.6 ac perm. facilities)
Please submit the revised information within 45 days. If you have any questions,
please call me.
Since
Kent Gorham
Environmental Protection Specialist II
