DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866 -3567
FAX: (303) 832 -8106
July 13, 2004
5TATE OF COLORADO
COLORADO
DIVISION OF
MINERALS
GEOLOGY
RECLAMATION-MINING
SAFETY-SCIENCE
Mr. Patterson:
The Division of Minerals and Geology has completed review of the 2003 Annual
Reclamation Report (ARR) for the Southfield Mine. Due to the change in Division
personnel, previous years reporting was reviewed back to 2000 to familiarize myself
with the work required and completed since that time.
One significant issue was immediately apparent. Beginning with the 2001
reporting year, the Division modified the Annual Reclamation Report form. The
proper form was submitted by EFMC for the 2001 reporting year. However,
reports submitted for Southfield for 2002 and 2003 were submitted on the old
reporting form. Due to the significant work conducted over that period, please
resubmit the forms for 2002 and 2003 using the revised form (see below for
more information).
Also, the 2001 report included Figure 1 for the RDA and Figure 2 for the loadout.
These figures identified the year of reseeding for each parcel reseeded through
2001. Beginning in 2002, these figures were replaced by a different map that
dropped the detail regarding the year of seeding and eliminated any depiction of
the loadout. Although the Division appreciates the detailed information on the
new map, it must also show the acreage and year of seeding for each discrete
parcel. Please revise the reclamation map to include this important information.
3. Acreage reseeded at the loadout is described as 13.1 acres. The Division
digitized the area represented as reseeded on Figure 2 of the 2001 ARR and
computed 16.53 acres. Please review this information and correct as necessary.
4. The area reseeded greater than 10 years was described as 9.3 acres in the 2001
ARR. In 2002 and 2003, this value was reported as zero. The Division has
determined that the area reseeded greater that 10 years is 14.7 acres and 18.2
acres respectively for the 2002 and 2003 ARR. Please consider this information
when resubmitting revised reports for 2003 and 2003.
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
Bill Owens
George Patterson
Governor
Ener 9Y Fuels Mining Company
Russell George
Director
Executive
P.O.
