Total annual
precipitation is 12.56 inches with the wettest months being April, May,
June, July and August. The Cotter Mill is less than 3
miles due west of the proposed facility site. KRLN is within 10 miles of
the site, in i:he northern part of Canon City. Meteorological data has
been collected for decades at these stations.
2.04.9 Soils Resource Information
Soil Types
The site was visited by soil conservation specialist, Roy Roper on
February 2, 2006. The possible soil types include unit 36, Fort Collins
loam, unit E-4, Louviers-Travessilla complex and unit 124 Wann-
Shanta.
Soil Survey
Soil sampling was conducted at the Northfield facility site according to
the State of Wyoming Guide to Soil guidance document. On February
10, 2006, seven soil pits were excavated to a depth of 6 feet or to rock
and the exposed soil profiles were evaluated and photographed. Soil
samples were obtained from both A and B horizons with the exception
of two soil pits where a C horizon was also sampled. Soil pit locations
are depicted on Map 2, Soil Survey Map.
Fifteen soil samples were collected sent to Colorado State University
Soil, Water and Plant Testing Laboratory in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Soil
samples were analyzed for pH, conductivity, texture and sodium
absorption ratio.
•

Soil Pit A Horizon
De th inches B Horizon
De th inches C Horizon Depth
inches
#1 8 64+ NA
#2 6 66+ NA
#3 8 64+ NA
#4 10 40 30+
#5 6 24 14
#6 8 64+ NA
#7 6 66+ NA
2.04-28 Revised 11/05/07
