Surface Waiter Use
Chandler Creek, its tributaries, and the other ephemeral drainages
previously described do not have surface water rights within the permit
area or belc-w the permit area. Therefore, for the named drainages,
there is no water right administration and no calls from the mainstem.
A general location map showing water rights near the permit area and
the Arkansas River is shown in Exhibit K. In addition, water rights
information queried from the State's database for these water rights is
summarizeci in Exhibit K.
Alternative Water Supply Information
The finding of the Report on Hydrology indicate that the proposed
Northfield mining operations will not adversely impact or interrupt
water usage in the area for domestic, agricultural, industrial, fish and
wildlife, or other legitimate use (Exhibit K). The Bishop Brogden April
2007 study includes athree-tiered mitigation plan of any adverse
effects of mining on water quantity in the vicinity of the mine. Tier 3
includes constructing wells in a new production zone or hauling water
to a cistern.. An augmentation plan will be required to meet the
requirements for the Arkansas River rules and regulations based on a
final detailed plan of anticipated consumptive water use by the mine.
No specific alternative sources have been identified at this level of
study, although various sources of augmentation water are available in
the Arkansas River basin.
Mapping of Hvdrolo~ic Information
Information required by this section in map form is presented on the
following maps and figures found in the Bishop-Brogden Hydrology
Report (Exhibit K) as follows:
- Figure 2, location Map with Significant Geologic Features
- Figure 4, local Drainage Basins
- Figure 5, 1Nater Rights General Location Map
- Northfield Mine Registered Wells -General Location Map
- Northfield Mine Significant Geologic Features -
General Location Map
- Northfield Mine Test Borings and Surface and Groundwater
Monitoring Locations- General Location Map
2.04.8 Clinnatological Information
The permit area is located in the foothills of the Wet Mountains in the
vicinity of Chandler, Spring and Fawn Hollow Creeks. The area is
• semi-arid with moderate temperatures and limited precipitation.
2.04-27 Revised 11/05/07
