4:44 PM Arrive at site. Sunset was at 4:42. Mine was closed. Parked in driveway facing east. <br />There are scattered clouds to the south and west. There is very little wind. Ground is snow <br />covered from blizzard on 12/20. When I arrived there were no raptors in trees on or near the site. <br />4:55 There is a raptor in the easternmost tree north of the gate. It left the tree at about 4:58. <br />5:00 There is a raptor in the large tree next to Shell's property. It had it's back is to me and I can <br />not make out markings. The head and tail were dark. <br />5:10 Raptor in tree next to Shell's left. Just before it left it turned and I was able to observe that <br />the front was mostly white. <br />5:22 END OBSERVATIONS. No additional raptors observed in trees. Now to dark to see with <br />spotting scope. During the survey I regularly observed all trees on and near the site with a <br />spotting scope and binoculars. <br />1/1/07 <br />4:42 Arrive at site. Mine was closed. Parked in driveway facing east. Sky is partly cloudy. <br />Temperature is in the 30's. There is very little wind. Ground is snow covered from storms on <br />12/20 and 12/28. No raptors were present in trees on or near site when I arrived. <br />4:46 There is a hawk in the easternmost tree north of the gate. It left the tree at 4:50. It was <br />perched with its side toward me and I could not make out markings. When it flew I observed a <br />mostly white front. During this quick glance it looked like arough-legged hawk. <br />5:04 Ared-tailed hawk landed in the large tree next to Shell's property. It landed facing me and I <br />was able to see the front markings. <br />5:35 END OBSERVATIONS. The red-tail was still in the tree next to Shell's. No additional <br />raptors were observed during the survey. During the survey I regularly observed all the large <br />trees on and near the site with spotting scope and binoculars. When I ended the survey it was <br />too dark to see. I could barely make out the hawk in the tree next to Shell's. If I hadn't observed <br />it earlier I would not be able to distinguish it. <br />1 /7/07 <br />4:42 PM. Arrive at site. Parked in driveway facing east. Temp in low 30's. Scattered high thin <br />clouds. Ground is snow covered (There was another snowstorm on 1/5). Strong wind out of <br />west. Sunset scheduled for 4:51 PM. No raptors in trees on or near site when I arrived. Took <br />three photos: 1 of the large tree on Shell property, 1 of two large cottonwoods in southern part of <br />Turnpike site, and one of a tree on Turnpike west and north of the cottonwoods. <br />4:50 There is ared-tailed hawk in the large tree next to Shell's property. It has a very dark back, <br />almost black. The front is very white with a reddish band across the chest. <br />4:53 A second red-tailed hawk arrived and perched next to the first one. Its appearance is very <br />similar. Tried to take a photo of the hawks through the spotting scope. Tried to take two more at <br />a higher magnification. I don't think the ones at the higher magnification will come out. <br />5:05 One of the red-tails has left. <br />
