land and this is the only farm that raises crops to sustain three families as their livelihood in this
area. Every other farm has either livestock which there is none here or other jobs, or gravel pits ,
or retirement from mines, Umetco, teaching, etc. This is the only farm that raises a crop to sell
and farming is the only source of income. We supply over 1000 tons of hay for ranchers in this
valley every year and without our prime pieces put back into production, we cannot do that.
Some of the paper work through all of their reclamation plan has facts distorted. Figures and
CASUAL statements while in the field form 1987-1999 have been misused and misrepresented.
Figures from1987 and continuous paperwork and statements have been used in 1998, 1999,
2000, and on without actually rechecking everything, they just put the words REVISED and a
date but the information is all incorrect. They printed out and recopied everything and then
added the words Revised, but didn't bother to check content to make sure statements were
accurate. For Example, They talked with Mr. Morgan out in the field in 1987 and he told
Peabody that the bales weigh this, and not sure of the count, and was not going to cut any 2°d or
3`d cutting GRASS Hay. So, rather than actually checking the facts and getting the figures which
I have for 1998 on, they put no production for 2°d and 3`d cuttings which was an absolute lie.
What they should have said is that WE HAVE NO GRASS HAY only alfalfa and we definitely
had very good 2°a and 3`d cuttings but it was alfalfa. What Mr. Morgans thinks to be a friendly
conversation as did James Johnson while out in the field all of sudden gets printed as fact and
even then it's distorted because of incorrect terminology. In 1998, we put up very few 88-92
pound bales because we went to the ONE-TON baler and most all of our production was in
ONE-Ton bales. We noticed many pages done this way. Mr. Morgan would make the comment
that our production was down because we had a lot of grass in our field and the next thing you
wouold read it as documented that our hay field is a grass field. This is very wrong. We plant
straight alfalfa. When years go by, the grasses come, so we re-do our field and plant it into corn
or oats and after we harvest we go back to alfalfa. We cannot replant alfalfa because it contains a
poison within itself and a new crop of alfalfa will not grow.
Satellite images state that there is very little irrigation. What they fail to tell you is what month
these pictures were taken. Ross Gubka said May. Well, water starts April 20 something and in
May we are still getting some fields ready and we do not plant alfalfa until June and there are a
number of very good reasons why the satellite may have not shown everything depending on the
month this was taken. There are so many facts that are incorrect. Statements that are misleading
and conclusions that are formed that should have never been formed without talking to the farmer
who may not even be the owner at that time. As with Mr. Morgan, he owns the property, but we
lease all of the surface rights and we would have the figures that would be accurate, not just
guesses out in the field or casual comments. At this time, NO one has come and gotten those
from me or Michael for years 1998 or after or even before. We always have to worry about a
killing frost even in June which each and every circumstance surrounding a particular field is
critical and may be explained easy enough if only the farmer was included.
It's just like the years suggested for planting the alfalfa, then plowing it up, planting corn or
whatever, and then returning it to alfalfa. Don't say this year we do this and this year we do that.
This should be left up to the farmers' judgement who is actually doing the work and has the
experience. I f production begins to drop, re-do your field. Harvest, then replant and get
production back up again. This is the common practice for this area. There are a lot of factors
even to this science. Weather, water, prairie dogs, weed control, and many things affect
everything you do on a farm.
