Elevation is 5,400 to 6,500 feet. The average annual precipitation is 10 to 13 <br /> inches, the average annual air temperature is 50 to 52 degrees F, and the average frost-free <br /> period is 120 to 135 days. <br /> This map unit is 85 percent Mikett soil and similar inclusions and 15 percent contrasting <br /> inclusions. <br /> Contrasting Inclusions <br /> This unit includes Mikim soils on alluvial fans, zigzag soils on hills, sideshow soils on alluvial <br /> fans and ramper soils on alluvial fans. <br /> Vegetation <br /> The ecological site is salt meadow. The dominant vegetation is 20 percent alkali sacaton,10 <br /> percent western wheatgrass,10 percent inland saltgrass,10 percent sedge, 5 percent rubber <br /> rabbitbrush, 5 percent Baltic rush and 5 percent greasewood. The potential production of <br /> native vegetation on these soils is 1,600 pounds on a normal year. <br /> Soil Management Implications <br /> Major uses are livestock grazing and cropland. Major management factors suitability for <br /> rangeland is fair, suitability for cropland is unsuitable and suitability for building site <br /> development is poor. <br /> Notes <br /> Wind Erodibility Group:4L , <br /> Hydrologic Group: D <br /> Detailed description of soil (Mikett clay loam, saline-sodic) <br /> The Mikett soil parent material is aluvium from a sandstone and shale source. Mikett soil is <br /> somewhat poorly drained. Typically the top layer is 0 to 8 inches of a light brownish gray clay <br /> loam. The next layer down to 60 inches is a light brownish gray clay loam. <br /> The permeability of Mikett soil is moderately slow. The available water capacity is moderate. <br /> Potential rooting depth is 12 to 60 inches. Runoff is medium, the hazard of water erosion is <br /> slight.
