Mud Creek Pit -Reclamation Permit Application -112 (C) Exhibits Page 41 of 67
Unit 124
Name Sideshow silty clay loam, 3 to 6 percent slopes
Description This map unit is a soil of very deep, well drained soil located on hills, alluvial fans and
terraces. Elevation is 6,000 to 7,500 feet. The average annual precipitation is 13 to 16
inches, the average annual air temperature is 46 to 50 degrees F, and the average frost-free
period is 100 to 120 days.
This map unit is 90 percent sideshow soil and similar inclusions and 10 percent contrasting
inclusions.
Contrasting Inclusions
This unit includes zigzag soils on knobs, sideslide soils on alluvial fans and Ramper soils on
alluvial fans.
Vegetation
The ecological site is Clayey Foothills. The dominant vegetation is 50 percent western
wheatgrass, 20 percent big sagebrush, 5 percent Indian ricegrass. The potential production
of native vegetation on these soils is 900 pounds on a normal year.
Soil Management Implications
Major uses are livestock grazing and cropland. Major management factors suitability for
rangeland is fair, suitability for cropland is fair and suitability for building site development is
poor.
Notes
Prime Farmland
Wind Erodibility Group:4L
Hydrologic Group: C
Detailed description of soil (Sideshow silty clay loam)
The sideshow silty clay loam parent material is aluvium from a Mancos shale source.
Sideshow silty clay is well drained. Typically the top layer is 0 to 3 inches is a brown silty clay
loam. The next layer down to 60 inches is a brown clay.
The permeability of sideshow silty clay loam is slow. The available water capacity is high.
Potential rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is high, the hazard of water erosion is
moderate. The shrink-swell potential is high.
Similar inclusions are made up of clayey surfaces on alluvial fans.
McStone Aggregates, LLC 15 FEB 2008 ©WASTELTNE, INC 2008 PN 5006.1-4(UUy)
