Elevation is 6,200 to 7,400 feet. The <br /> average annual precipitation is 13 to 16 inches, the average annual air temperature is 46 to <br /> 50 degrees F, and the average frost-free period is 100 to 120 days. <br /> This map unit is 80 percent ustorthents and similar inclusions and 20 percent contrasting <br /> inclusions. <br /> Similar Inclusions <br /> Similar inclusions are made up of zig-zag soils on hills. <br /> Contrasting Inclusions <br /> This unit includes Collide soils on terraces, sideshow soils on alluvial fans and herm soils on <br /> hills. <br /> Vegetation <br /> The ecological site is Pinyon Juniper. The dominant vegetation includes 15 percent <br /> twoneedle pinyon, 15 percent Utah juniper 20 percent big sagebrush,10 percent <br /> muttongrass, 10 percent western wheatgrass and 5 percent Indian ricegrass. The potential <br /> production of native vegetation on these soils is 600 pounds on a normal year. <br /> Soil Management Implications <br /> Major uses are livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. Major management factors suitability for <br /> rangeland is poor, suitability for cropland is poor and suitability for building site development <br /> is poor. <br /> Notes <br /> Wind Erodibility Group: 8 <br /> Hydrologic Group: D <br /> Detailed description of soil (Ustorthents) <br /> The Ustorthents parent material is eolian material, residuum and aluvium from a mixed <br /> source. Ustorthents is well or somewhat excessively drained. Typically the top layer is 0 to 3 <br /> inches is a brown very cobbly loam. The next 3 to 14 inches are brown very cobbly loam. 14 <br /> to 36 inches is brown extremely cobbly loam. The next layer down to 60 inches is a brown <br /> very stony sand loam. <br /> The permeability of ustorthents is moderately slow to moderately rapid. The available water <br /> capacity is low to moderate. Potential rooting depth is 10 to 60 inches or more. Runoff is high <br /> to very high, the hazard of water erosion is severe.
