• This tract was originally classified by Peabody Coal as Irrigated Pasture.
• Portions of these tracts were "Wild Flood Irrigated• in the past. There were no
furrows, gated pipe, side roll sprinkler system or other methods to control
water distribution. Irrigation water was allowed to traverse over the land at
will.
• WFC does not own sufficient water to fully irrigate this land since it has only
12 shares for a total of 57.6 acres.
• WFC is not in the farming business and has no interest in returning the land
back to an Irrigated Pasture Post Mine land use.
• WFC is reclassifying this land as Dryland Pasture.
Morgan Tract #1: The Morgan property south of BB Road and west of 2700 Road of
22.89 acres that has been previously designated as Cropland -Irrigated Grass Hay
with Affaffa. It is now designated as drytand pasture so the Cropland can be moved to
the west side of the property. This is simply a proposal at this time since WFC has
not yet replaced the topsoil in this area and has more control over what
This parcel was previously harvested as an affalfa field and will be returned to
same. It is located immediately SE of 27 8~ BB Rd intersection.
It has been observed that the Morgan's management style for this field before
mining commenced was to flood irrigate the field by corrugated pipe and
furrow strips that ran the length of the field. Typically, the watering would take
place at the beginning of each harvest cycle. Massive amounts (up to 70
shares or 2 CFS for this 22.89 acre field) of water were used and needed, to
traverse portions of the field at a time. This is called °Pulse Flow Irrigation•
and is needed to push the water in the furrows to the furthest point in the
field. An aerial photo indicates some of the furrows were in excess of 1,280
feet. It was not uncommon for the water to be turned on for several days or
more to totally cover the acreage. Porosity of the soil also plays a big part in
how long a watering set will take and how long a field may be.
Morgan has only leased 50 shares of water to WFC to completely irrigate the
post mine lands in the permit area. The lease is included in Attachment
2.05.4(2)(e)~. Approximately 22.9 shares are dedicated to the 22.89 acres
of Cropland {alfalfa), therefore, other parcels on Morgan's property will not
have sufficient water for full irrigation.
WFC will replace all topsoil in this field to its original depth if it is agree that
this is to be done.
Morgan Tract #2: The Morgan property south of BB Road and west of 2700 Road,
west of Morgan Tract #1, consisting of approximately 43 acres that has been re-
designated as Dryland Pasture, formerly designated as Irrigated Pasture. This is
called Morgan Tract #2.
This parcel was classed in 1998 by the soil saentist that did our pre-mine
Page 7 of 10
