B. All welds shall comply with the requirements of AWS D1.1. <br />C. Trash rack shall be hot dip galvanized after fabrication in accordance with ASTM A153. <br />2.13 MECHANICAL SEAL <br />A. The annular space between the stem casing and sleeve shall be fitted with a mechanical <br />type interlocking synthetic rubber link shaped to continuously fill the annular space <br />between the stem casing and sleeve. Links shall include bolts that when tightened after <br />the seal assembly is positioned in the sleeve will cause the rubber sealing elements to <br />expand and provide a watertight seal between the casing and sleeve. Seal shall be <br />"Link-Seal" or equal. <br />PART 3: EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />A. Coordinate pipe and structure installations with COMPANY. <br />B. Where proposed pipes or structures connect to existing pipes or structures, field verify existing <br />conditions and dimensions prior to procuring new structures and pipes. <br />3.02 PIPE INSTALLATION <br />A. Pipe installation as required by this section shall be conducted in accordance with Section 206, <br />Excavation and Backfill for Structures, and Section 603, Culverts and Sewers, of the CDOT <br />Standazd Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction. <br />B. Pipe bedding material shall conform to the requirements of subsection 703.07 of the CDOT <br />Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction <br />D. The pipe shall be placed in the trench and joined in accordance with the pipe manufacturer's <br />recommendations. <br />E. Immediately following installation of the pipe, pipe bedding shall be installed and compacted in <br />two equal lifts to approximately twelve (12) inches over the top.of the pipe. This material shall <br />be installed and compacted in such a manner as to avoid displacement or damage to the pipe. <br />F. Succeeding layers of backfill from twelve (12) inches above the pipe to the surface maybe native <br />trench material containing coazse materials, but shall be free from large pieces of rock, frozen <br />materials, concrete, blacktop, wood, roots, stumps, sod, rubbish and other similar articles whose <br />presence in the backfill, in the opinion of ENGINEER, would cause excessive settlement of the <br />trench or damage to the pipe. <br />G. If the native trench material does not meet the requirements for Granular Materials specified <br />herein, it shall be considered surplus material and disposed only with approval from ENGINEER. <br />CONTRACTOR, during the excavation operations, shall make a reasonable attempt to segregate <br />all undesirable materials encountered from suitable materials. Any additional material needed for <br />backfilling shall be furnished and installed by CONTRACTOR <br />02661-5 <br />
