PART 2: PRODUCTS <br />2.01 GENERAL <br />A. All backfill and embankment material shall be free of wood, organic soils, large <br />boulders, topsoil, snow, ice, and other unsuitable materials detrimental to performance <br />of the dam. <br />2.02 MATERIALS AND MATERIAL SOURCES <br />A. UPSTREAM CLAY BLANKET <br />1. Materials conforming to the specifications for UPSTREAM CLAY BLANKET are <br />located within designated COMPANY supplied material borrow sources. The <br />general location of material sources are indicated on the Contract Drawings as the <br />"Borrow Area". All materials used must be approved by COMPANY or <br />COMPANY's Representative. If unsuitable COMPANY supplied materials are <br />encountered, CONTRACTOR shall notify COMPANY and COMPANY may <br />choose to use the material or direct CONTRACTOR to alternate material source <br />sites. <br />2. In the event there is not a sufficient quantity of any or all of the specified materials <br />in the designated COMPANY supplied material source sites, CONTRACTOR shall <br />obtain material from an alternate site not listed and shown on the Drawings, as <br />approved by COMPANY or COMPANY's Representative. CONTRACTOR shall <br />obtain all permits necessary to haul material over public roads. <br />The material for use as the UPSTREAM CLAY BLANKET shall consist of lean <br />clay or lean clay with sand material from the "Borrow Area". The material should <br />classify as a CL according to the Unified Soil Classification System. The plasticity <br />index of this material shall be between 7 and 30%. The material shall conform to <br />the following grading: <br />U.S. Standazd Sieve Size Percent Passing Drv Weight <br />3" 100 <br />#200 ~0 <br />B. DOWNSTREAM EARTH BUTTRESS GENERAL FILL <br />1. Materials conforming to the specifications for GENERAL FILL aze located within <br />designated COMPANY supplied material borrow sources. The general location of <br />material sources are indicated on the Contract Drawings as the `Borrow Area". All <br />materials used must be approved by COMPANY or COMPANY'S Representative. <br />If unsuitable COMPANY supplied materials are encountered, CONTRACTOR <br />shall notify COMPANY and COMPANY may choose to use the material or direct <br />CONTRACTOR to alternate material source sites. <br />' 2.
