acres. The Mayflower Facility (34) , Construction Settling Ponds
(37) , Cyclone Facility (20) , Pond Shop Facility (21) , and the
Mayflower Topsoil Stockpile No. 1 (35) affect an additional 45
acres associated with tailing deposition and site preparation.
The Buffehr' s Quonset Facility (9) , Observatory Ware-
house (42) and Summit County Warehouse (43) are used for equip-
ment and materials storage and contractors use.
The Oxide Tailing Pond (40) is presently not an active
tailing deposition site, but may be used as a backup system.
Oxide tailing was disposed of on the site during the mid-1960 ' s
and currently affects 43 acres.
Since 1969 , Climax has actively mined the Arkansas
Aggregate area (4) which essentially covers 85 acres. Mining
will be temporarily. discontinued in 1977 in this area and be
resumed again around 1985. Portions of the pit have already been
depleted of aggregate and are currently under reclamation (approxi-
mately 10 acres) . Additional disturbance will occur this fall_
when the Arkansas River is relocated to provide access to , aggre-
gate reserves when mining resumes. Additional acreage will not
be affected by the construction which has been authorized with a
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 404 Permit.
The Kokomo Facility and Aggregate area (27) is currently
under preparation and mining will commence when the Arkansas
Aggregate area is discontinued. Total acreage of the site is 302
acres, part of which will be mined until approximately 1985, when
it is anticipated to be covered by the advancing Mayflower Tailing
6-5
