i
Pond, one disturbance covering another. At this time, aggregate
mining will revert to the Arkansas Pit.
Two other aggregate operations were recently (1977)
permitted by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board. The
areas are referred to as Lowdermilk' s Pit One (31) and Alternate
Pit (25) , each less than 10 acres in size, but which are part of
larger disturbances totaling 41 acres. The pits are used by H.E.
Lowdermilk Company to obtain aggregate for the Colorado State
Highway 91 relocation project under direct management of the
Colorado Division of. Highways. The Alternate Pit is to be used
as a backup to Pit One if needed. Both pits are scheduled to be
inundated by the advancing Mayflower Tailing Pond. Pit One will
be covered during 1979 and the Alternate Pit by 1997.
• At least three aggregate pits have been abandoned
during the years prior to 1969. One of these was reactivated and
already addressed in this section as Lowdermilk' s Pit No. One.
The other abandoned pits were already referred to as Areas (B)
and (C) .
6-6
