The company practices concurrent mining
and reclamation, which effectively minimizes the amount of land disturbed t.t any one
time due to mining. The comprehensive mining plan for the Lyons site divi~Ies the area
into three mining phases:
1. West Plant
2. East Plant
3. Rockin' WP-South
In turn, each of the three phases is subdivided into mining pods or stages designed to
facilitate the practice of concurrent mining and reclamation currently employed by
Westem Mobile.
The mining process at [he Lyons site typically follows these steps:
l . Topsoil and overburden aze removed and either stockpiled for future
reclamation or used immediately for that purpose.
2. Next, the area to be mined is dewatered by pumping and/or draining,
groundwater.
3. Once dry, the sand and gravel aze excavated and fed to a primary processing
and conveyor system located at the mine face.
Western Mobile Lyons -Comprehensive Plan Z-4
