Table 95.5, lists plantrng areas, approximate acreages, species <br />composr [r on of each area, and the total numbers planted by species for each area. All plant <br />materials were one-year-old containerized nursery stock developed from bitterbcush, <br />rho 4:e cherry, Gambel oak, se r~iceberr y, snowberry, Woods rose and boxelder seed collected <br />from the Seneca I[ mrne site. Narrowleaf cottonwood and willow were planted near existing <br />stoc Y.ponds. The cot[onwootl and willow were 9roun from cuttings taken from mature plants <br />loca [ed within a 5 mile ratltus of Seneca II Mine. <br />The seedlings were grown and planted by Bitterroot Native Growers, Znc. IBNG) of Hamrl[on, <br />Montana. Tree Gua [d browse repellent was placed on all planted seedlings. All seedlings <br />were treated with a mycocrhizal fungi inoculum that was developed a[ the BNG nursery. <br />Plantings ue re completed in late September 1999 rn reclaimed sites which were disked <br />several trmes during Che growing season to control established herbaceous vegetation and <br />prepare the site for pl antrnq. The heavy disking created numerous planting mrcrosrtes. <br />In addition to the tubling sites, SCC hand seeded along the reconstructed drainage channels <br />• with shrub seetl using shrub seed mix in Table 99.4 at a rate of approximately 15 16. per <br />acre, see drawing 5299-9A. 7.4 acres were planted with tublings and approximately 2.0 acres <br />ue re planted wr [h the direct seed rn Table 99.4. <br />Weed Control <br />~r1' <br />i <br />Survey Ear no%ious weeds was carrred out on [he Seneca II Mrne permit area rn 1999. <br />Moni[oang was conducted in 1999 to determine the need or level of ret re atment necessary <br />for areas sprayed to 1958. Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) was the primary target species <br />rn all control areas, with lesser ac[rvrty directed towards areas of whitetop ICa rdaria <br />dra bal. The applied herbicide consisted of a tank mrx of 2.5 gallons of 22K To rd on and 2.5 <br />9dllons of 2,9,0 with 250 ga Llons of water. Control areas were sprayed to May and Sune. A <br />spot spray gun was used [o concentrate control activities on target areas, reducrng <br />potential rmpac [s [o adlacen[ desirable vege [a [ion.
