• map. These routes and picture locations are shown on the enclosed Subsidence Survey Routes, 1996
map. Had subsidence features been found or suspected, measurements would have been taken of
the features. All of the inspection tours were done by Larry Reschke.
The first RSS loop ,inspected on April 27, 1996, was over areas projected to be mined using the
FCT continuous haulage unit during the next year. Of specific interest on this rottte was the presence
of large steel power line stnictures. One of these structures was [o be undermined in June 1996.
Poor mining conditions caused an early withdrawal from the panel before the structure was
undermined. Pictures 1 - 4 were taken along one of the Town of Palisade's water lines. Pictures 5 -
8were taken on a ridge neaz the lease boundary as a general overview of the high elevation areas
neaz the mine. Pictures 9 and l0 were taken of former disturbance associated with the power line
installation in 1984. Pictures 11-15 were taken around structure 207. Pictures 16 - 18 were taken
neaz structure 207 overlooking Rapid creek and the deep draw between structures 207 and 206.
Pictures 19 - 21 were taken in the bottom of the draw between structures 207 and 206. Pictures 22 -
26 were taken around structure 206. The survey point shown in pichire 26 was installed by Public
Service to be able to monitor the tower before and after mining under the structure. Pictures 27 and
28 show disturbance associated with the power line installation. Pictures 29 - 31 are shots of Rapid
Creek. Pictures 32 and 33 show a basaltic rock structure that appeared out of place in the
sedimentary environment. It appears to be a remanent of a former lava flow rather than a volcanic
plug. The two power line structures and the Town of Palisade waterline are the only significant
• structures in the area inspected and Rapid Creek was the only significant feature found. This was
a pre-mining inspection and no subsidence evidence was found.
The second RSS loop ,inspected on May 23, 1996, was over areas mined during the preceding year
or more. Of the 19 pictures taken during the tour only 2 came out ok. (the film had not advanced
in the camera and the two that came out were on the next roll.) All of the missing shots were general
pictures showing the topography of the area and did not include any specific structure or subsidence
features. The two pictures, 1 & 2 ,that did develop are general topography shots looking north
from a point over the 11 West panel. A Town of Palisade water line is the only significant
structures in the area and Cottonwood Creek is the only significant feature.
The third RSS loop, inspected on December 12, 1996, was over portions of the 4 South Mains, 6
East panel and 7 East panel primarily where mining had occurred within the last year. Picture 1 is
a small wet area that is appazently fed by an alluvial seep. There was no water flowing away from
this wet area. Picture 2 & 3 were taken near the start of [he 6 East panel. Pictures 4 - 9 make a
continuous panorama view from looking east over 6 and 7 East panels, around north to a view west.
Pictures ] 0 and 11 show more of the steep relief over 6 and 7 East panels. Picture 12 shows Rapid
Creek where the two panels crossed under it. Picture 13 shows the Rapid Creek drainage bottom,
across the Colorado River, up Coal Canyon and through the saddle into Main Canyon (Jerry Creek
drainage). Pictures 14 & 15 again show Rapid Creek over the two panels as well as the access road
up the creek. Pictures 16 - 19 were taken from the Rapid Creek access road, shown the previous
pictures, looking west. There were no signs of subsidence on this route.
