• water line is close to the Rapid Creek access road shown in pictures 14 & 15 and was the only
significant structure found. Rapid Creek was the only significant feature.
The first RSN loop, inspected on May 22, 1996, was over portions of the previously mined 1 West
panel and 3 North Mains which was in the process of being mined. Due to the steep terrain, the
traverse could not cover all areas projected to be mined in the next year. Pictures 1 - 4 are a
panorama view of Jerry Creek which flows through Main Canyon. Picture 5 was taken near the
west end of the 1 West panel looking east. Most of 1 West panel had around 400' of cover. Pictures
5 & 7 were shots of Jerry Creek. Picture 8 shows the steep terrain looking south from the canyon
bottom. Picture 9 shows the steep terrain looking north from the canyon bottom up [he length of 3
North Mains. This picture shows the "guzzlei' installed in the 80's by the Colorado Div. of Wildlife
for Chukars. Picture 10 and 11 were taken from a point from which 3 West panel is projected to be
started to the west of the 3 North Mains. Picture 12 aze a shot looking west at the point that 4 west
panel is projected to be started. This picture as well as picture 10 show hoodoos which are typical
found throughout the permit azea. Pictures 13 - 18 are a panoramic view taken on up the drainage
shown in picture 9. Picture I S is looking west over the 5 West panel which had up to 1700' of cover.
There were no significant structures in this azea and Jerry Creek is the only significant feature. The
guzzler consists of galvanized roofing on the ground which channels water into a buried barrel which
feeds a water bowl. We do not consider the guzzler to be a significant structure. No subsidence
related feature were found on the inspection.
• The second RSN loop, inspected on November 25, 1996, was over the previously mined 1 West
panel. Picture 1 was taken looking west along 1 West panel and picture 2 was taken looking north
along the 3 North Mains. Picture 3 shows a "stone bridge" along the Jerry Creek access road.
Pictures 4 & 7 are two of the subsidence monuments installed earlier in 1996. Picture 5 faintly
shows a surface crack starting neaz the bottom center of the picture circling to the lefr around to the
dead tree neaz the top center of the picture. Picture 6 is the same crack looking across the dead tree
from the opposite direction. The crack was up to 4" wide. Looking at the adjacent 10'+ vertical
bank of Jerry Creek, I believe that it is a stream bank failure rather than a subsidence related crack.
No significant structures were found and Jerry Creek was the only significant feature.
Subsidence monuments were installed in Coal Canyon and Main Canyon in the fall of 1996. These
5 points can be monitored from one point on the ridge between the two canyons. The location of
these points is shown of the Subsidence Survey Routes 1996 map. The following is a list of
coordinates and elevations for the monuments:
Name Northing Easting Elevation
Base 1,021,131 .82N 104,358.55E 5164. 00
SMOI 1,022,251 .71N 107,868.15E 4868. 81
SM02 1,021,954. 58N 105,246.28E 4898. 44
SM03 1,023,150 .24N 101,689.75E 4970. 17
SM04 1,020,533 .47N 103,268.01E 4985. 44
SMOS 1,018,495 .90N 100,993A3E 5120. 97
• Page 4
