three covers will have at least 18-inches oP topsoil; tha remaining
cover will consist of subsoil. The topsoil/subsoil thickness mix may
vary sa a result of the physical and chemical analysis oP the refuse,
topsoil and subsoil ae outlined in the pre-reclamation investigation
phase. The test plots will be constructed in Spring/Summer, 1990
concurrently with the reclamation of the refuse pile RP-1.
o The test plots will be mulched with grass hay or straw, and seeded
with a rangeland seed drill to form a crimped hay mulch.
Post-reclamation Investiptation
The post-reclamation investigation will consist oP the following tasks:
0

r ~~
~-5-'.
~/
J
The vegetation on the teat plots will be sampled beginning in the
summer oP 1991. Sampling will be repeated in the summer of 1992,
1993 and 1995. Cover and woody density sampling will be performed
in 1991 and 1992. Cover, woody density and production sampling will
be conducted in 1993 and 1995.
Cover sampling within plots will entail 5-10 systematically or~
randomly located 100' transacts with 5 systematically or randomly
spaced 10 point frame placements per transact. Woody density data }J
n~
will be estimated Prom 2 meter wide belt transecte run along each ~
cover tranaect. For production sampling, a minimum of 10 randomly
b`=-~"
located Imp quadrats per plot will be used. Sample adequacy will be Z
set such that estimates are within 10% oP the true mean at the 90%
level of statistical confidence.
o Rooting depth oP the major species within the various plots will be
evaluated. A number of soil pits will be dug within each plot in the
final year of the study and results of the evaluation will be included
in the final report.
o ~ The plant sample will be analyzed Por selenium and boron content if
the pre-reclamation investigation shows a high concentration oP
