October 2000 -27- 003-2191
after the development of the Denver Basin, thus, creating a erosional interface and
• disconforrnity. This disconformity and time of deposition created the local geology and
sedimentation of clay deposits and sand from the wind erosion of the surfaces to the
west. Arkosic sandstone and clay ranging from green azenaceous clay to pinkish and
brown clay and ranging to black clay, all exist on the property. The local depositional
environment displays fingering, weathering at deposition, and unconformity in layering
and sedimentation. The site geology, as shown in the cross section of Figwe 4,
indicates variability in strata across the property. The neaz surface materials are
fingered and aze difficult to trace due to the changing physical and chemical matrix of
the bedding planes.
Structwe
The site is located on the westem flank of the Denver Basin, which is an ellipsoidal,
bowl shaped groundwaterbasin. The basin is thought to have structwal features similar
• to those in the underlying structwal depression (Robson, 1987). The regional dip along
the western edge is considered to be slightly to the east toward the basin center. The
near-surface structwe of the strata beneath the site, based on the correlation of a
sandstone unit in the six drill holes, dips 3-5% to the west. The surface and near surface
structwe has been modified locally by the erosional depositional environment and the
Dawson depositional unconformity which probably explains the gradient reversal
observed in the on-site strata. The relative dip of the strata beneath the site is shown by
the cross sections of Figwe 4 and structwal contows of Figwe 5.
3.2.2 Hydrologic Data
General Surface Water Information
Because of the limited amount of precipitation in the south Colorado area
• (approximately 20" total annual) and the extensive neaz surface soils and sands across
VJ6r1191(LI915etl~liePmn~il°00AOC Sedalia Recycling Center and Depository
