2.5-1
2.5 SURFACE WATER MONfT'ORING PROGRAM
A water quality monitoring program has been established to monitor the effect of mining
activities. Portions of this monitoring program, as well as the ground water monitoring
program, described in Section 2.6 will cover both the Munger Canyon and McClane Canyon
mines which operate in close proximity to one another in the same major watershed. Locations
of all surface water monitoring sites are shown on Figure 4.2-2.1s in Volume vII.
The quantity of flow at SW-1 will be measured quarterly, contingent upon the availability of
water. The design of the bridge over East Salt Creek at McClane Canyon was developed to
allow easier monitoring of flow. A flow rating chart has been developed to ensure consistence
of flow measurements. Flow measurements will also be taken at SW-3, in Munger Creek below
the mine site. The measurements will ideally be taken twice a year if water is available to
sample. Measurements will be taken once during spring snow melt and once during a storm
event. Flow rating charts for both East Salt Creek and for the culvert at SW-3 are presented as
Table 2.5-3.
Water all samples of East Salt Creek will be collected quarterly at sites SW 1, SW4,and
.____ ~.-
SW-8 as shown on Figure 2.3.5. Water quality samples will also betaken on Munger Creek and
its tributaries at sites SW-3, SW-6, and SW7 twice a year; once during spring snow melt and
~~ 1 t
once during a storm event (spring or summer). Table 4.5-12 shows the results of the April,
1981 laboratory analyses from East Salt Creek monitoring locations SW-1 and SW-4. All water
samples will be analyzed for the parameters shown in Table 2.5-2. The results of all monitoring
will be submitted to the Regulatory Authority immediately following receipt of analytical results.
During periods of temporary cessation, the monitoring program will be modified as follows.
Water quality samples will betaken quarter) fr_y Om_~3. Samples will be analyzed for those
parameters listed in the temporary cessation portion of .Table 2.5-2. The quantity of flow will
be measured at SW-3 when samples are collected.
Mu Volume 1 1 - 9 -96
