Very little ground water was encountered during exploratory
drilling, and the need for consistent mine discharge as a result of
inflow into the mine is not anticipated. Some depletion of surface
water by infiltration to the workings through natural and mine
caused fractures may occur, but the amount would be minor due to
the steep topography and low precipitation. These factors, coupled
with the short duration, high volume characteristics of snowmelt
runoff and thunderstorm runoff favor surface runoff over
infiltration. Some localized increase in TDS and TSS may occur as
a result of mining, however any increases in TDS would be
diminished to insignificance by dilution of East Salt Creek, and
TSS increases outside the permit area will be controlled by
sediment controls at the mine.
mung\ahrsumry.mem
