2.6-1
2.6.1 Ground Water Monitoring_
A water quality monitoring program as been established to monitor the effects of the
McClave Canyon and Munger Canyon mines on ground waterin the area. The groundwater
monitoring program will consist of the following observations, measurements and sampling:
1. Quarterly monitoring of wells GW-2, GW-3, GW-4, GW-6 and GW-8 for
Static Water Level, pH, Temperature, and Specific Conductance.
2. Water quality sampling of mine water discharges as required by NPDES
and CDOH permit.
3. Monitoring of all non-seep inflows into to mine to include source, quantity,
duration and quality (pH, Electrical Conductance, and Temperature).
4. Monitor quantities of water discharged from the mine, consumed in the
mine, and imported for use in the mine.
Results of the quarterly groundwater monitoring shall be submitted to the Division ..
immediately after data collection and analysis. Results of additional monitoring will be
submitted to the Division in an annual hydrological report. The annual report will detail
inflows, discharges and consumption of water within the mine and shall be structured around
the normal 'tivater year" (October 1 through September 30).
Water samples will be collected with a bailer after the depth to water table has beeri
measured. All monitoring wells shall be pumped at lease once a year and prior to sample
collection with an air lift or a bailer.
The monitoring well GW-6 as shown on Figure 2.3-5 was installed and has been sampled as
required prior to the construction of the Munger Canyon Waste Rock Pile. Water quality
samples shall be taken and water levels established quarterly. Analysis will be for the above
noted parameters.
On March 20, 1984, the Division approved a revision to sample GW-6 in Munger Canyon only
during the period of temporary cessation. Since GW-6 has been dry since installation, well
GW-3 will be substituted and monitored quarterly for Static Water Level, pH, Temperature,
and Specific Conductance.
Mu VOLUMEI 1.9-96
