begin in a more definite pattern. In order to reclaim each bench, the
bench must be completed before easy access to the bench is lost through
mining the next bench. This forces a highly contemporaneous reclamation
pattern which will continue from now until the operation is completed in
about 20 to 30 years.
The only sizable area which is under reclamation is the visual berm
located in the southeastern corner of the operation. This was completed
several years ago and has become a model site for future reclamation of
the quarry. The vegetation here, both grasses and trees, are doing very
well and maintaining themselves. Some small amount of reduction in
cover on the steeper areas has occurred, but that was as expected. This
area covers about 2.5 acres.
RULE 2.41 4 THE SPECIES OF VEGETATION PLANTED, THE LOCATIONS AND
APPRORIMATE DATES OF PLANTING.
Planting of the quarry area which was ready for seeding was performed
in April. Because some of the grading had not been completed at the first
time of seeding, the seeding was done at two separate times about 3 weeks
apart. The mixture used was:
SPECIES
INTERMEDIATE WHEATGRASS
PUBESCENT WHEATGRASS
SLENDER WHEATGRASS
WESTERN WHEATGRASS
BLUE GRAMA
YELLOW SWEETCLOVER
RATE ~ PLS/ACRE _ BROADCAST)
9
3
3
5
0.5
4
24.5
RULE 2.41 5 THE TYPE AND APPRO%IMATE QUANTITY OF FERTILIZERS, ORGANIC
MATERIAL, OR SOIL CONDITIONERS USED AND LOCATION OF USE.
No fertilizer was applied to the seeded area. It has been found,
that fertilizer in these growth media do little good and is generally a
waste of effort and money. No mulch was used either or other soil
amendments.
Page 2 of 3 1988 SNYDER QUARRY ANNUAL REPORT
