• beardless bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata ssp. inermis), green needlegrass
(Stioa viridula), and narrow-leaved cattail (Tvoha anq~tifolial were also present.
Introduced perennial forbs, primarily alfalfa (Medicago saliva), contributed 37.6 percent of
total vegetation cover. Cicer milkvetch (Astragalus cicer) and Canada thistle (Cirsium
arvense) also contributed a small amount to measured total vegetation cover measurements..
Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) was also present. Native perennial forbs contributed 0.3
percent of total vegetation cover. All of this cover was provided by hoary aster
(Machaeranthera canescensl. Other species present in less than measurable amounts included
western yarrow (Achilles lanulosa), blue flax (Adenolinum lewisii), willow-herb (Epilobium
ciliatum ssp. glandulosum), groundsmoke (Gavoohvtum diffusum), gumweed (Grindelia
squarrosa), Rocky Mountain penstemon (Penstemon strictus), James starwort (Pseudostellaria
iamesiana), and curly dock (Rumex crispus). Introduced annual and biennial forbs accounted
for 7.2 percent of total vegetation cover. Hound's tongue (Cvnoglossum officinale) provided
three-quarters of this percentage. Pinnate tansymustard fDescurainia pinnata) and twolobe
speedwell (Pocilla biloba) contributed the balance. Littlepod falseflax (Camelina microcaroa),
bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare), prickly lettuce (I_actuca serriola), yellow sweetclover
(Melilotus officinale), Jim Hill mustard (Sisymbrium altissimum), pennycress (Thlasoi
arvense), and salsify (TragQpoaon dubius) were also present. Linearleaf collomia (Collomia
Iinearis), a native annual fort, did not contribute measurably to total vegetation cover but was
present.
Japanese brome (Bromus~ponlGLS), an introduced annual grass, contributed 1.6 percent of
total vegetation cover. Cheatgrass (Anisantha tectorum) was also present. Rubber rabbitbrush
(Chrvsothamnus nauseosus), a native shrub, provided 0.3 percent of total vegetation cover.
Mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos rotundifolius) was also present.
Total vegetation cover averaged 55.6 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock cover
averaged 0.2, 27.4, 8.9, and 7.9 percent, respectively. Species density averaged 9 species per
100 sq. m.
Biomass production data were not collected in this reclamation unit.
•
8
