Fort species included the annuals Descurainia Sophia at 2.8% mean cover and 8.8%
relative cover, and Ceratocephala orthoceras at 0.4% mean cover (1.2% relative
cover).
Woody plants were represented in cover sampling by Alriplex canescens and Atrip/ex
rnnfertifo/ia with 0.4% mean cover (1.2% relative cover) and 1.2% mean cover and
3.8% relative cover respectively.
Herbaceous Production
Total herbaceous production on this treatment plot was 52.98 g/m2 (471.5 lb/ac).
' Bromus japonicus/tectorum dominated the herbaceous production at 36.66 g/m2 or
69.2% of total production, while the perennial grasses E/ymus junceus and Agropyron
cristatum together accounted for 10.96 g/m2 (20.7%) of the [oral production. Five
' annual forts produced 5.36 g/mz for 10.1 % of the herbaceous production. Herbaceous
production results for this treatment are found in Table 12.
Woody Plant Density and ]hmeasions
Five woody plant species accounted for 119 individuals on this plot providing a density
of 1127/acre. The predominant species was Amp/ex confertitolia, followed by Atriplex
canescens, Sarcobatus rermiculatus, Chrysothamnus nauseosus, and Artemesia
tridentata. in this plot the largest woody plant was an Atriplex confertifolia individual
measuring 59 cm in height by 81 cm in diameter.
species Diversity
Perennial and annual grasses were represented by four and one species respectively.
' Annual forts (two species), and woody plants (two species) were also present. Of
these four lifeforms, those representing greater than three percent relative cover
included perennial and annual grasses (one species each), and annual forts and woody
' plants with one species each.
3.3.2 Test Plot 2: 12"
Cover
Vegetation cover for this treatment was 43.2%. Of that total, graminoids comprised
' 36.0% mean cover, forts 1.2% mean cover, and woody plants 3.2% mean cover.
Cryptogams provided 0.4% total cover. Litter provided 22.4% total cover, rock 0.4%,
and bare ground 33.6%. Table 13 presents cover results for this treatment.
1
' 35
