Herbaceous Production
' Total herbaceous production on this treatment plot was 46.74 g/m2 (415.99 lb/ac).
Bromus japonicus/tectorum dominated the herbaceous production at 13.76 g/m2 or
29.4% of total production. The dominant perennial grasses Hilaria jamesii and
Sporobolus airoides accounted for 10.28 g/m2 and 5.86 g/m2 of total production, and
' total perennial grass production was 16.24 g/m2 . Ten annual forbs produced 16.74
g/m2 for 35.8% of the herbaceous production. Herbaceous production results for this
treatment are found in Table 10.
' Woody Plant Density and Dimensions
j There were 171 woody plants counted on this plot for a density of 2483/acre. Three
species were present with Chrysothamnus nauseosus dominating. The largest woody
plant on this plot was an Atriplex canescens individual measuring 174 cm high by 383
' cm in diameter. This was the largest woody plant encountered on all the test plots.
Woody Plant information is presented in Tables 29 and 30.
' Species Diversity
There were five plant lifeforms present in this treatment plot. They included three
' perennial grasses, one annual grass, three annual forbs, two woody plants, and one
cryptogam. Of these, two perennial grasses, one annual grass, three annual forbs, and
' two woody plants represented species with greater than three percent relative cover.
3.3 Test Plot 2
3.3.1 Test Plot 2: 6"
' Cover
' Total vegetation cover for this treatment was 31.6%. Graminoids accounted for 26.8%
mean cover, forbs 3.2% mean cover, and woody plants 1.6% mean cover. Litter
' accounted for 16.0% total cover and bare ground 51.6%. Cover results for this
treatment are listed in Table 11.
' Bromus japonicus/tectorum at 23.6% mean cover (75.0% relative cover) was the
predominant grass. The subdominant species was Agropyron cristatum with 1.6%
mean cover (5.0% relative cover). Additional graminoids included Sporobolus airoides
with 0.8% mean cover (2.5% relative cover), and Agropyron smithii and FJymus
junceus (Russian Wildrye), each with 0.4% mean cover and 1.2% relative cover.
34
