1
Grass species were dominated by Bromus japonicus/tectorum at 14.4 % mean cover
' (54.6°6 relative cover). Subdominant species included ,ggropyron cristatum at 3.646
mean cover (13.6% relative cover), and Agropyron smithii, and Agropyron
' trachycaulum (Slender Wheatgrass), each accounting for 2.8% mean cover and 11.4%
relative cover.
' Forb species included the annuals Lepidium montanum (Pepperweed) at 1.2% mean
cover (4.6% relative cover) and Dlescuramia Sophia (Flixweed) at 0.4% mean cover
(1.5% relative cover). These forb species represent annual introduced species
' characteristic of disturbed areas.
The single woody plant represented in cover sampling was Atriplex canescens (Four
' Wing Saltbush) at 0.4% mean cover and 1.5% relative cover. Four Wing Saltbush is a
long-lived native shrub characteristic of dry areas in the west.
' Herbaceous Production
' Total herbaceous production on this treatment plot was 63.4 g/mz (564.26 Ib/ac). The
perennial grass Agropyron cristatum dominated herbaceous production with 21.78 g/mz
or 34.346 of total production. Bromus japonicus/tectorum was next in dominance with
' 19.92 g/m2 or 31.4% of total production. The perennial grasses Agropyron smithii,
~ropyron trachycaulum, and a Festuca species accounted for the remaining perennial
grass production of 19.38 g/m2 (30.6 %) of the total production. Five annual forts
' produced 2.3g/mz for 3.6% of the herbaceous production. Table 6 lists herbaceous
production results for this treatment.
t Woody Plant Density and Drmeasious
Fifteen woody plants were counted on this plot for a density of 218/acre. Five species
' were present. Predominant was Atriplex confertifolia, followed by Chrysothamnus
nauseosus, Atriplex canescens, Sarcobatus r~ermiculatus, and Artemesia tridentate. The
largest woody plant was a Chrysothamnus nauseosus individual measuring 92 cm high
' by 127 cm in diameter.
' Species Diversity
On this treatment, five lifeforms were represented. They included four perennial
' grasses, one annual grass, two annual forts, one woody plant, and one cryptogam. Of
these, only three perennial grasses, one annual grass, and one annual forb represented
species with greater than three percent relative cover.
' 31
